The top markbands (13-15) require a well-structured, analytical, and persuasive essay. Your essay must be driven by a clear thesis statement presented in the introduction. Each subsequent paragraph should present a distinct point that supports your overall thesis, backed by specific, detailed evidence. Simply telling the story of what happened will not score well; you must use the evidence to support an argument.
For a top-band response, integrate historiography. Instead of just stating facts, show that you understand the historical debate. Use phrases like: 'While traditional historians such as... argue that X was the main cause, revisionist interpretations from historians like... place greater emphasis on Y.' This demonstrates a sophisticated engagement with the topic.
