Understanding your IB Diploma score
The IB Diploma is scored out of a maximum of 45 points. Each of your six subjects is graded 1–7 (42 points maximum). Up to 3 bonus points come from Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the Extended Essay (EE) via the Core matrix. Add subject points + bonus for your final total.
What do I need to pass the Diploma?
For the IB Diploma Programme, you need at least 24 points overall, plus:
- At least 12 points from your three HL subjects
- At least 9 points from your three SL subjects
- No Grade 1 in any subject
- At least Grade D in both TOK and EE (Grade E in both = fail)
- CAS completed
These are failing conditions — breaking any one can mean no Diploma even above 24 points.
